Description: uniform reddish, large scales and large dark eyes, often with dark opercular mark
Size: up to 28cm
Habitat: nocturnal; found around caves, wrecks and holes
Diet: planktivores: feeds mostly on larger zooplankton

Sargocentron spp. - Squirrelfish - `Ala`ihi wav.gif (916 bytes)

Description: often with longitudinal white lines on body, occasionally with tricolor dorsal fin
Size: to 16cm
Habitat: nocturnal; less than 2 m depth usually near reefs
Diet: small crustaceans
