Kealakekua Bay, Hawai'i

Potential Threats

Like any area that receives a high amount of human traffic, the biggest threat is from the visitors themselves. Swimmers, snorkelers and divers that sit and stand on coral probably pose the biggest threat simply from the high potential frequency of occurrence.

Anchor damage from boats also is a concern and there are several area on the reef which show obvious holes due to careless and/or ignorant boaters. There are several pin moorings in the area and these are extensively used by the tour boats which visit the site daily.
