Lyngbya majuscula

 

Description: filamentous seaweed black to dark grey but can be shades or red green or yellow. 5-10cm long may cause swimmers itch, found with other seaweeds.
Size: small filaments
Habitat: shallow tide pools and subtidal habitats

Description: soft mat of fine hair-like strands, reddish brown color, forms large mats that cover reef.
Size: mat 1 cm tall.
Habitat: reef flats and tide pools
